International Song Festival RZESZOW CARPATHIA FESTIVAL - aim of the event is promotion of talented young artists and presentation of various music culture of Europe and the rest of the world. The originator of the idea is Anna Czenczek, Director of “Rzeszow Carpathia Festival” and Director of Centre of Vocal Art in Rzeszow. For the first time, festival took place in 2005, 1-3 May, under the name 1st All-Poland Festival of Polish Song Rzeszow 2005. From the 2nd edition it got a status of international festival and has been hosting artists from such countries as: Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Republic of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Israel, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy and Poland.
Artists taking a part in the festival – music bands, soloists, duets and trios – are performing with the festival orchestra accompaniment. The orchestra were directed so far by: Jaroslaw Babula (2005 edition), Piotr Walicki (2006 edition), and Zbigniew Jakubek (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions). Artists are presenting an authors’ songs from the genre of so- called popular music (pop music), which are judged by the festival jury.
Until now the chairmen of the jury were: Agnieszka Fatyga, Zygmunt Kukla (originating from Rzeszow), Natalia Kukulska, Attila Weinberger from Romania and Dorota Szpetkowska. Members of the jury were e.g. Zbigniew Wodecki and Elżbieta Zapendowska.
- The main Award of the festival is promotion of the Winner by co-financing the cost of publishing CD or co-financing the cost of a concert tour, invitation for presenting a concert in next edition of the Festival and memorable statuette. The Winners of Grand Prix in years 2005 – 2010 were: Bartosz Jaśkowski, Tomasz Szczepanik with the band „Pectus”, Peter Cmorik from Bratislava, Mateusz Krautwurst with the band „The Positive”, Adam Ďurica Band from Slovakia, trio „3nity Brothers” from France. Among the laureates of the Festival are also: Michał Karpacki (participant of the 3 edition of the TV programme Idol, currently vocalist in the band ,,Michał Karpacki & De Mono”), Sara Chmiel (vocalist in the band ,,Łzy”).
- Tradition of the festival are vocal and dancing shows performed by the Centre of Vocal Art and directed by Anna Czenczek, prepared for the opening of the festival (2005: Bad people, 2006: Nothing better than splendid, 2007: Fashion and love, 2008: LO.BO.GA Boys, 2009: Let’s Twist Again, 2010: About love and not only…). The Festival audience had a possibility to see the famous artists from the polish music scene performed in a Festival Star Concert: Agnieszka Fatyga, Kasia Kowalska, Ryszard Rynkowski, Natalia Kukulska, Maja and Andrzej Sikorowscy, Maryla Rodowicz, Patrycja Markowska, Janusz Radek, Ewa Farna, bands: „Pectus”, „Kombii”, „Bracia”, „Bajm” and „Perfect Symphonic”.
- Among the Festival fringe events should be mentioned: International Vocal Workshops „Carpathia Festival Vocal Workshops” which ended with recording of the promotional CD with the folk songs in etno, pop and rock arrangements from the V4 countries; “Visegrad Culture Days” with number of performances performed by Rzeszow theatrical, dance and instrumental groups’ and artists from Visegrad Group; Conference entitled “Two days of Visegrad Culture - common vision of cooperation between Rzeszow and countries from V4 Group for Europe”; Photo Exhibition entitled “Czeskie Naj” in Photo Gallery of Rzeszow City, besides it: meetings with participants and stars of the Festival in EMPiK Bookstore, as well as special programs for whole families performed by ,,Kvelb Theater” from Czech Republic. During this edition of the Festival, will be presented exhibition entitled “Transmission with a human face” which is documenting dissenting movement e.g. KSS-KOR, cart77.
